Ipoh Hawker, the ultimate Malaysian street food is brought to you by the crew at Ipoh Town as they celebrate almost 30 years of serving authentic Malaysian cuisine in Sydney. Billy Chong is the second-generation owner whose family were pioneers in the Sydney Malaysian food scene, being the original owners of Laksa House at the QVB in 1994. Ipoh Town’s opening in 2012 is an homage to these original recipes which were inspired by his grandmother’s home cooking. Billy has reimagined his family recipes, continuing to tell the story of Ipoh-style fare and Malaysian cuisine as a whole.
We’ve introduced flavours and dishes from my home town Ipoh, as well as showcasing provincial cuisines from all around Malaysia to bring you the ultimate Malaysian Street Food hub. We believe we captured a more authentic take on Malaysian food.”

Long-time Malaysian friend Justin Ng left his corporate finance career in 2015 to follow his passion for Malaysian food and joined Billy to form the next generation of authentic Malaysian Street cuisine legacy. Justin shares Billy’s passion in expressing their culture and heritage through food with Sydney. He was thrilled at the opportunity to open the Ipoh Hawker restaurants, the idea of taking Ipoh Town's essence to expand on the menu and the heart of the brand.
There is a reputation and a legacy we’ve built from serving authentic Malaysian cuisine in Sydney over the past 11 years. The Ipoh recipes have been a pillar of Malaysian dining, unchanged for nearly 30 years, this expansion to Blacktown, Rosebery, Macquarie Park and Marrickville is the future as we reimagine the Malaysian Street Food scene with Ipoh Hawker.”
